Kaarobaar, a causal dine-in restaurant, was established in the year 2019 with an immense amount of planning and strategizing. It all began in the year 2017 when Shivam Kohli and Anupriya Kohli decided to do something different from their family lineage and decided to be entrepreneurs. They decided to start their own business, and they have never looked back since, operating successfully in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.
Their basic idea behind Kaarobaar was to start a pocket-friendly casual dining place. It has always been to open a place which is open for all, where everyone feels welcomed, a casual dine-in restaurant which is not hefty on the pocket yet a delight to the taste-buds. The idea is to pander to the masses and serve them the best.
The brainchild of Shivam Kohli and Anupriya Kohli, both the founders have done a wonderful job in this sphere. Both the founders are siblings and have different perspectives, qualifications, and qualities that helped them succeed as a team. Shivam Kholi holds a degree in Economics Hons and an MBA in Marketing. Shivam has a strong hand in digital marketing, customer service and in the hospitality sector. Shivam is an ambitious human who has huge plans for Kaarobaar. When he is not planning and making business strategies, he can be seen cooking delicious items in the kitchen.
Anurpriya, co-founder of Kaarobaar, holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science Hons and a post-graduate degree in Gender Studies. She holds great experience in handling and managing workforces and innovators, and she has previously worked with organisations like Goonj Jagoree, APDP, etc. She holds great responsibility for retaining the staff and building trust and coordination between the teams.
Anupriya and Shivam hail from non-entrepreneurial backgrounds, and we have no proper guidance. To put it in their words, they say, “We started off completely raw, coming from a service family with no one to guide us on how to operate and run a business.” “The journey for sure has been challenging and full of ups and downs, especially because of the pandemic,” they say, “but it gave us a new learning across all horizons, which we are grateful for.”
The venture has achieved various milestones today, kickstarted with a capital investment of Rs 25,00,000 that they took from their father as a loan. Investing such a huge amount is a risk, but as they say, “business is all about risk.” As an early-phase start-up, the capital services are limited and there is a lot to work upon. The fear of running out of funds is always there. However, they say, “However, the fear of running out of funds helped us put in more effort and hard work into the business & eventually got us to a monthly break-even in just six months of our operations.”
Shivam and Anupriya have made their mark in the hospitality sector. They make sure that their customer service is excellent and they treat customers like kings. To make Kaarobaar such a success, Kaarobaar followed their core values. They share their success mantra and state, “Any brand or company can be made or broken through its employees; therefore, it is always important to work with likeminded people who understand and respect your vision and help you to achieve it.” For them, Kaarobaar was always Plan A and they never had Plan B, so they were keen on building this venture. They are known for bridging the gap in the market for takeaways by opening a dine-in restaurant and providing great food, wonderful customer service at the right price, and a wonderful ambience. They say, “ When you know you are filling a gap in the market with your brand, you are motivated to do more things and put in more effort.”
It is successfully running in a prime location in Delhi, Old Rajinder Nagar, where various students, working professionals, and people from various fields come and enjoy their meals at very affordable prices. They believe that only two things can set a company apart from the competition: perseverance and workforce. They also focus on the quality of food that they produce. They believe, “Eventually, it is your food that will get the customer back, so always keep a check on your food quality and consistency.”
As a part of their expansion phase, they are planning to expand brand across Delhi NCR and Punjab. They are slowly getting recognised and slowly they are on their way to expand throughout the country. They are also open for franchises and opening outlets in various parts of the country.
They say, “Keep evolving as a brand as per the changing trends/ markets around you in order to stay relevant.”
